Launching our cutting-edge Flight Management System

In line with our commitments to growth and innovation, Glenorchy Air has partnered with DNA, to transform our flight operations with a cutting-edge Flight Management System.

Since taking over Glenorchy Air in 2019, James Stokes has driven significant advancements in the company and during the COVID-19 pandemic, the team worked on modernising flight scheduling and load management processes in house. With the help of one of our Pilots, Jim Rooney, who used to write code in a previous life, the concept to enhance operational efficiency with a digital solution began.

Fast forward to 2023, with borders open and an additional aircraft joining the fleet Glenorchy Air was ready to take the existing system to new heights. Having recently partnered with Both Brains for our IT services, we collaborated with Managing Director Ryan Howard to explore the best options for our development needs. After thoroughly assessing our requirements, Ryan connected us with the skilled DNA team, helped us define our scope and provided seamless solutions for managing the back-end of our new system. The resulting Flight Management System (FMS) integrates with our existing booking platform Rezdy and allows ground staff and pilots to efficiently schedule and manage flight load capacities, streamlining operations, optimising aircraft utilisation, and ensures precise weight distribution for safe flights, all in real time.

Webhooks within the Rezdy booking system push updates into the app’s backend. At the same time, a WebSocket layer provides data feeds between the central office and pilots on the ground so staff can see real-time updates and collaborate seamlessly.

FMS delivers significant operational value by providing unprecedented transparency across all aspects of flight planning and execution. This enhanced visibility empowers staff to make informed decisions quickly, leading to improved efficiency and safety. A key future goal is to transition to completely paperless operations, and this system brings us a significant step closer to that reality.
